Salty and sour, this grapefruit-based cocktail is a unique mixed drink that’s easy to make. It also has the added bonus of being able to give you your daily serving of fruit, so it’s clearly good for you… right? Why not? Win-win!
As you can see below, the ingredients are common and it doesn’t take too much effort to put it together. The only thing that you may not commonly have handy is grapefruit juice, but instead of buying it pre-made in a jug, do yourself a favour and just get a few fresh grapefruits instead. Cut them in half and squeeze them by hand into a measuring cup – trust me, it makes a huge difference in taste and only takes a minute!
2 oz vodka
¾ oz Campari
3 oz grapefruit juice
Use a lime wedge to rim a short glass with Kosher salt. Fill the glass with ice, add the vodka, Campari, and grapefruit juice (Squeezed from a grapefruit, right?! Usually half a grapefruit will produce 3 oz), and stir. If you don’t want pulp in your drink, pour the juice through a sieve. Garnish with lime wedge.
Unlike some other cocktails, it’s relatively easy to adjust it to your tastes. You can simply reduce the Campari if you want it to be less bitter, you can add a ½ oz of simple syrup if it’s too sour, you can increase the vodka for a stronger punch, and/or you can add club soda to make it bubbly. The grapefruit juice base is surprisingly versatile, making it hard to ruin this drink with most different combinations, within reason, of course.
