This was one of the first drinks that we discussed on this blog, around two years ago in the Hosting a Big Party story. It was brought up again in our Five Favourite Summer Cocktails post. Most recently, we decided that we liked this drink so much, that we’d need put an updated version of it on EVOO Greek Kitchen’s upcoming spring menu.
This is the first time that we weren’t making it in a pitcher, so it took a bit of testing to come up with the correct measurements for a single serving. So while a nice big pitcher is usually the way to go, we recognize that once in a while, you have to be responsible and only drink one. Just don’t come crying to us when you realize that everyone else saw you drinking this bad boy and now they want one too…
1 ½ oz vodka
½ oz lemon juice
¾ oz simple syrup
4 dashes ginger lemon bitters
4 basil leaves
4 slices cucumber
Garnish: Cucumber slice and basil leaf
Muddle 3 slices of cucumber and 3 basil leaves in a shaker. Add vodka, lemon juice, simple syrup, bitters, and ice, then shake well. Double strain into an ice-filled Collins glass and top with club soda. Garnish with a slice of cucumber and a basil leaf.
If you find yourself on Preston street in Ottawa, stop in at EVOO and try this beauty for yourself, along with their usual ridiculously good Greek fare.
