“It tastes like candy!” was the first reaction I got with this new drink. After hearing that, I figured I may be onto something.
This take on the Shandy was really just a mad experiment. At our last photo shoot and sh!t-making session, one of the guys asked for a Shandy and I decided to create something with the ingredients at my disposal.
After a few adjustments, here is what I came up with:
½ pint of St. Ambroise Apricot Beer
½ pint ginger beer
2 oz lemon juice
4-5 dashes of ginger lemon bitters
Mix ingredients together in your favourite pint glass and garnish with mint sprig.
I found it to be a surprisingly balanced drink. You get a hint of apricot with spice from the ginger beer and bitters, countered with the sourness of the lemon. The aroma of the mint sprig adds a nice herbal element to the drink.
This spur of the moment creation became a great summer drink and a great alternative to a simple pint.
Think of it as candy for those of legal drinking age.
