Although summer is my favourite season, I always get excited for the heavier flavours of fall. But now that we’re well into the season, I have to admit that I am missing some of the lighter, fizzy cocktails that are so refreshing during the summer.
With that in mind, I decided to come up with a recipe that brings together the best of both worlds: the heavier flavours of the fall combined with the light, refreshing effects of the summer. Here’s what I came up with:
1 ½ oz Sailor Jerry’s Rum
½ oz apple cider
¾ oz cinnamon syrup
DRY Fuji Apple Sparkling Soda
Garnish: apple slice and rosemary
In a shaker with ice, add all ingredients except for soda and shake well. Strain into a Collins glass and top with apple soda.
What you end up with is a fall cocktail in a summer package. The vanilla and spice notes of the rum play well with the cinnamon and apple. Adding just a touch of the apple soda adds that needed boost to make it something a bit more unique than just an average Tom Collins.
It’s a really smooth and easygoing drink that’ll help tide you over until the long wait to summer. In the meantime, cherish the autumn season and drink (to stay warm, of course).
