Banana Head

Do you like bananas? I sure do. Not only are they chock-full of nutrients and antioxidants, but they’re also the main ingredient in one of my favourite desserts – banana bread.

So when I ordered a bottle of Giffard Banane du Brésil, I figured I’d try my hand at a banana cocktail in dessert form.

I’ve been drinking quite a bit of rum these days, as mentioned in my recent posts (The French Parrot, The Hurricane) and felt that it would be the appropriate pairing to go with the banana liqueur.

Here’s what I came up with:

1 oz El Dorado 12 Year Old Rum
1 oz Giffard Banane du Brésil
1 oz Drambuie
¼ oz Allspice Dram
1 bar spoon rich demerara syrup
2 dashes Fee Brothers Black Walnut Bitters
Garnish: banana slice

Add ingredients in a mixing glass and stir. Strain into a rocks glass and garnish with a slice of banana.

The result is a sweet, deceptively boozy, banana-flavoured cocktail that everyone can enjoy. Unless you don’t like bananas. In that case, get lost.

I’m pretty happy with how this one turned out. I made a drink that tastes like dessert.

Mission accomplished.
